Self Assessment: Crocheting

Self assessment is part of life and part of improving yourself, and I assess myself all the time, especially when it comes to crafting...maybe a little too much because it makes me an obsessive perfectionist haha. Well I guess this tells me I have more to grow.

Anyway, recently I had an opportunity to asses my crochet skills when I revisited an amigurumi teddy bear I made last year. I compared the one I just made to the one I made last year, and I can definitely see an improvement! Here are some photos of before and after.

My first amigurumi

To me, it's hard to believe they're made from the same pattern! The first one I made, I didn't really understand the importance of the size of the needle, so I just used the one I was most comfortable with which was a lot bigger than the recommended size, so this amigurumi ended up being really flimsy and you can actually see the stuffing through the huge stitches. Plus, it looks really deformed!! (in a cute way, of course lol!) Don't get me wrong, I'm still very proud of my first amigurumi teddy bear!

Now, here's my second one and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. I made this one for a friend, so I wanted to make it right. I actually changed the skirt and made it into a tutu and used a smaller crochet hook, so the stitches are tighter. I hope she likes it :-)

Go ahead and try making something you've made before and compare them!
