Oh Deer Oh My!

Yes! I'm happy to say that I'm done with my Charley Harper Deer/Fawn needlepoint. Wow, covering the back ground took forever! All I need to do at this point is to block my canvas and then frame it! My sister will love this, especially since every stitch is made with love.

Also, I got a rotary tool and I got to play around with it,  so I can practice using it. I used the drill to make this deer cabochon I bought into a super cute pendant! I love it!

Charley Harper Needlepoint Update

Since I ran out of thread, I'm going to show you guys my progress...

My progress.

So far, I finished the little fawn and I chose mint green for the background color. There's a lot of background to cover so it took me a while to get this much done. I know there's a lot more to go, but  I'm enjoying it because I find it quite soothing!

I've decided to give this to my little sister when I'm done because she's a fawn and deer fanatic. She's quite obsessed with them, so I think she would appreciate this very much.

Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for reading!

Charley Harper Design: Needlepoint

Charley Harper is one of my favorite artists and I found some of his famous prints printed on a needlepoint canvas online. I got very excited until I saw the prices which ranged from $55 to well over $100! Yikes! These prices are just for the canvases and threads aren't even included!

Then, l I found one of the images of the canvas big enough to where I can see the details of the mesh. So, I decided to use that image to chart the image myself! Here is a cute fawn that will be transformed into a needlepoint creation!

The Fawn by Charley Harper

The process is very straight forward; I transferred the image to a small grid graph paper which I printed from online, counting each colored section. I bought an 18 count mono canvas and embroidery floss colors #780, 783, 779, 310, and white. I would say I saved at least 50 bucks by doing it this way :-).

Transferring the image of the needelpoint canvas I found online to my graph paper.

Here is my progress and I love it so far! The pattern is very simple and easy. I think this will be a great beginner's project. I really should've started off with this pattern instead of the humming bird design. What was a I thinking?

My progress.

I will be adding a background color but I'm not sure what. I'm thinking a shade of green but what do you guys think? Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading and happy crafting!

My First Needlepoint Project is Complete!

It's been a quite a busy and stressful week for me with work and school. Despite my schedule, I still found some time to craft and I managed to finish my first needlepoint project. Woohoo! I'm thinking of framing it since I don't know what else to do with it. It's only 5 by 5 inches.

This pattern was challenging since there were a lot of colors involved, but I'm glad to say that I did it! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Now, I can cross out "learn how to needlepoint" from my new years resolution list!

I'm planning to do one more regular needlepoint project before I dive into miniature scale :-) You'll find out what it is soon, so stay tuned!

Have a great weekend everyone and I want to welcome all of my new followers!

My First Needlepoint Experience

One of my new year's resolutions is to learn how to needlepoint. I didn't want to start on a miniature scale, so instead, I bought myself a plastic canvas and used some yarn to make a coaster. I used an image I found online for the pattern, and here it is.

Needlepoint Coaster

I got the hang of needlepointing, so I got my first needlepoint kit and started working on it. It is a beautiful humming bird design which is printed on the canvas with all the threads included.

Half way there!

This is my progress so far and I'm at a half way point.  I'm realizing how tedious and time consuming needlepoint is!

The humming bird is a complex design with more colors involved compared to the coaster, so I find it quite challenging. I have to think ahead on which colors to stitch first, so I can securely stitch the colors that have only few stitches. Even though, I was extremely careful, I still managed to miss some stitches. :-(

Close up

This is how the back looks and I'm not even sure if it's supposed to look like this.  Does it even matter how it looks on the back? Anyway, thinking of doing this in miniature scale seems more daunting than I initially thought!

I hope everyone is keeping up with their new years resolutions! Have a great week!
